Art Provenance
The shirt's graphic is a plate from the 1830 manuscript of the Joga Pradipika (जोगप्रदीपिका). While most of the manuscript illustrates physical asanas, this diagram is a technical visualization of the Sukshma Sarira, or "Subtle Body." It showcases 19th-century Rajasthani manuscript painting, specifically the Mewar school, known for its vibrant, instructional use of color.
Sukshma Sarira ('The Subtle Body')
- The Three Primary Nadis: The central column represents the Sushumna, flanked by the Ida (lunar/cooling) and Pingala (solar/warming) channels.
- The Seven Chakras: Vertically aligned along the spine, these energy centers are depicted with the symbolic color palettes established in the 1737 text by the scholar Jayatarama.
- The Serpent Power: At the base of the central column lies the Kundalini Shakti, the coiled serpent energy ready to be channeled upward through the practitioner's focus.
