Graphic provenance
The art on the ShirtCastle 1443 Acupoints on the Bronze Man Tee comes from the Tong ren shu xue zhen jiu tu jing (Illustrated Manual of Acupoints on the Bronze Man). While the system was first established in 1026 CE with the casting of bronze acupuncture statues, the 1443 woodcut prints represent the Ming Dynasty’s effort to standardize those original anatomical maps.
The illustrations map the flow of Qi (氣)—the vital energy that animates the body. By printing on both sides of the shirt, we maintain the 360-degree technical view used by 15th-century physicians:
- The Front: Maps the primary energy channels of the chest and abdomen where Qi gathers.
- The Back: Maps the "Shu" (transport) points along the spine that regulate energy flow to the internal organs.
- The "Cun" Measurement: The markings on the art illustrate a unit of measurement defined by the wearer’s own anatomy (specifically the middle finger crease). This ensures that the energy points are located accurately regardless of the person's size.
